Tashonda, originally from North Carolina, graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Criminology, minor in Forensic Anthropology and Economics. After undergrad, Tashonda exercised her green thumb by working for a commercial greenhouse in South Carolina in their sales and marketing department.
Tashonda answered the call to serve alongside Brooklyn residents struggling to recover post-Sandy by volunteering for the grassroots volunteer organization Red Hook Volunteers. Being a volunteer par excellence, she was invited to come on staff with Red Hook Volunteers, serving as Vice Presdient and Chief of Operations. Since January 2015, Resurrection Brooklyn Relief has been delighted to add her to our team, serving as a Site Supervisor. Tashonda is a tenacious advocate for disaster recovery to be done with justice, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to be out in the field getting her hands dirty. She is just as happy to be on site training and supervising volunteers to complete various rebuild tasks. She holds numerous emergency management certifications and sees herself on track for a long term career in Emergency Management.
Tashonda enjoys cooking and even washing the dishes after. She has an insatiable appetite for learning, geeking out particularly on disaster response. If you’re volunteering alongside Tashonda, ask her about her music career. Maybe she’ll invite you to a gig or even better, a solo performance at the Volunteer House.
